According to foreign media reports, in October 2019, British automobile manufacturing capacity dropped 4% year-on-year, which may be caused by the aggravation of the impact of brexit. In October, 19, the total automobile production in the UK was 134752, 5622 fewer than that in the same period last year. The automobile production in the UK's domestic market decreased by 10.7%, while the total export decreased by 2.6%. In the past 17 months, car production in the UK has been in a year-on-year decline for 16 months, with only a small increase in August 2019. Mike Hawes, the boss of SMMT, said that the drop in production month after month has put the auto market in a very worrying situation, and the global competitiveness of the UK auto industry is under threat. Up to now, in 2019, the cumulative production of British cars has declined by 14.4%, producing 1123926 cars, 80.5% of which have been exported to destinations including the European Union, the United States, China and Japan. Mike Hawes believes that in an unprecedented period of market change, close trade relations with the European Union and preferential trade with other markets are crucial for the British automobile industry.
