The Secretary General will also report to the Executive Board of the alliance and the CEOs of the companies. Renault Nissan alliance has been established for 20 years. In 1999, Renault acquired Nissan shares and the two sides formed a Renault Nissan Alliance. Renault owns 43.4% of Nissan, while Nissan owns 15% of Renault without voting rights. In 2016, Nissan acquired 34% of Mitsubishi's equity, forming the Renault Nissan Mitsubishi alliance, in which Ghosn served as the chairman. In November last year, Mr. Ghosn was taken away by the special search Department of Tokyo local Procuratorate in the form of voluntary counterparts because he was suspected of declaring his own remuneration too little and violating the financial commodity trading law. Subsequently, the operation of the whole alliance fell into confusion and was once on the verge of breaking up. In order to save Renault and Nissan Mitsubishi alliance, this year Renault and Nissan made a series of personnel changes. In October, Nissan appointed Makoto Uchida, senior vice president of the company and President of the limited company, as its chief executive officer. Meanwhile, Renault dismissed Thierry bollore, its chief executive, and appointed Clotilde delbos, its CFO, as its interim chief executive. According to the industry, one of the reasons why both sides appoint new CEOs is that they hope to resume the alliance relationship as soon as possible.
