In December 2013, T2, which has been produced in Brazil for 37 years, finally completed its mission and declared to stop production. Volkswagen, a classic long-lived model, finally withdrew from the stage of history. Although it has become history, the Volkswagen T2 is still the dream car of many nostalgic car fans. It seems that the refitting of electric vehicles with classic cars has become a popular trend in the refitting market. Both the official and private refitting factories have built old electric vehicles based on classic old-fashioned fuel vehicles, and the proportion of electric vehicles in SEMA refitting exhibition is gradually increasing. Just to see the position of Volkswagen T2 in the hearts of fans, Volkswagen North America branch recently launched a new project called project e-bus, and cooperated with EV West, a professional electric vehicle modification company in the United States, to build electric T2. The project is based on a 1972 Volkswagen T2, which is repainted with Kansas beige and white roof, and equipped with chrome dog bowl rim cover, all of which are regarded as the classic Volkswagen T2. The key modification project is its power system. The 60 horsepower gasoline of the original car is replaced by the 134 horsepower motor of e-Golf. The 35.8kwh group is placed under the front seat, and the fuel tank used to be placed here. There is no waste of space. The motor of e-Golf still adopts the rear layout of T2 original car, and the "original position" refitting scheme of replacing the oil tank with battery pack greatly reduces the refitting difficulty. The most interesting thing is that the gearshift lever of the original T2 car has also been preserved, and the interior has not been adjusted. It is absolutely original. According to the head of Volkswagen North America, this form of power conversion gives the T2 e-bus a zero emission e-Golf feature and a 125 mile (201 km) range. When mentioning whether the electric T2 will be mass-produced, Volkswagen said that the creation of the electric T2 is only to demonstrate the feasibility of this power form conversion, and is also an attempt to electrify the classic old car. With the combination of the new field of electrification and the classic old car of Volkswagen, the brand strength of Volkswagen will be further demonstrated.
