KT is the largest telecom company in South Korea, while Hyundai ROTEM is a key subsidiary of Hyundai Auto Group, which is dedicated to producing railway vehicles, military and factory products. On November 5 local time, KT said in a statement that the two companies will develop a control tower platform and a ground vehicle remote operating system in a joint project. The joint project will first show the 5g version of HR Sherpa, a small ground unmanned vehicle (SUGV) developed by modern ROTEM. The demonstration will take place in December in Ruishan, about 100 kilometers southwest of Seoul, and will test the ability of the SUGV to conduct aerial survey and package delivery. KT said the SUGV, connected to a 5g control tower platform, could be used in construction sites, logistics, military reconnaissance and security. As a major defense contractor, modern ROTEM has invested in the development of unmanned military systems, including SUGV, wearable exoskeleton robot suit and mine detection robot. Last October, HR Sherpa officially appeared at the robot exhibition held in Gaoyang, the northwest satellite city of Seoul. Initially, HR Sherpa was designed as an electric driverless vehicle for infantry, with a maximum speed of 30 km / h. In addition, the vehicle is equipped with water-cooling system and integrated thermal management system, which can ensure long-distance driving and all-weather operation, and can operate under any weather conditions. In addition to providing fire support, military reconnaissance and cargo transportation, the vehicle can also perform remote control functions and dependent driving functions to automatically keep up with the soldiers in front of the vehicle. KT has developed automatic driving technology and platform. In April of this year, the company cooperated with unmanned solution, an automatic driving technology company in Seoul, to commercialize 5g network to provide automatic driving travel services in controlled environments such as theme parks and industrial parks. In October, KT also cooperated with Hyundai Engineering and construction to develop 5g based technology for automated robots.
