(source: Bridgestone official website) according to foreign media reports, Bridgestone announced that it named its new polymer susym, which is the first polymer to bond rubber and resin at the molecular level. The company is committed to increasing the awareness of susym materials and making its contribution in various fields. The name susym stands for the combination of three words: "persistence", "Symphony" and "symbiosis". The durability of the new polymer has reached an unprecedented level, the crack resistance is more than 5 times of that of natural rubber, the wear resistance is more than 2.5 times, the tensile strength is more than 1.5 times, and the damage resistance of natural rubber itself is higher than that of ordinary synthetic rubber. The company launched high-strength rubber in May 2018, and susym is its development product. The mixture combines synthetic rubber components (such as butadiene and isoprene) with resin components (such as ethylene) at the molecular level through a new gadolinium catalyst. The characteristics of susym are as follows: when the strength acts on the material at a point, although it may produce a certain degree of deformation, susym can resist puncture. As a result, the company expects susym to be used as a high-strength rubber and tire material, as well as in a variety of other applications. Susym material can be easily repaired by heating even if it is punctured. As a new rubber material, susym is expected to be recycled many times. Conventional rubber will become hard and brittle at low temperature, and it is easy to break when it is impacted. Susem keeps the flexibility of rubber, even in low temperature environment, it can resist the impact and does not affect the use.
