(photo source: official website) according to foreign media reports, German carmaker BMW said on December 4 that it would sue the two suppliers for pricing of air-conditioning components of vehicles. The news was first reported by the German media Handelsblatt, which said BMW was suing French firm Valeo and Japanese firm Denso for 141 million euros ($155.4 million). A BMW spokesman confirmed the authenticity of the news, but declined to give other details. Valeo and Denso did not immediately comment. The case concerns a decision taken by the EU antitrust agency in 2017, when the EU imposed a total fine of 155 million euros on a number of auto parts manufacturers, including Valeo and Denso, on the grounds that they organized or participated in Cattell in multiple markets. The cartels identified by the European Commission are related to vehicle air conditioning and cooling systems, which were first or formed in 2004 and only lasted until 2009. All the companies involved admitted the wrongdoing in exchange for a 10% reduction in fines in the EU. The car companies affected by these cartels include BMW, Daimler's Mercedes brand, its cars, Suzuki, Renault and Land Rover.
