North America announced the US market promotion plan for BMW's global induction charging pilot. The pilot program started in Germany as early as 2018 and is now available in California, USA. The program is available to 200 eligible residential users who can charge in a closed garage space. BMW bears all costs, expenses and expenses related to the initial installation, maintenance and disassembly of the floor mat module. Participating distributors include San Francisco in Northern California, San Mateo, contracosta, Alameda and Sonoma counties, and orange, Santa Barbara, Los Angeles, Santa Clara, Ventura, riverside and San Bernardino counties in Southern California. BMW wireless charging includes an inductive (groundpad) which can be installed in a garage or outdoors, as well as an auxiliary vehicle component (carpad) fixed at the bottom of the vehicle. The contactless energy transfer between the groundpad and the cardpad takes place at a distance of approximately three inches. The groundpad creates a magnetic field. A current is induced in the carpad and the high voltage is charged. The charging power of the system is 3.2Kw, which enables the high-voltage battery on the BMW 530e iperformance to be fully charged in about three and a half hours. The charging efficiency of BMW wireless charging system is up to about 85%, which is also very high from this point of view. BMW wireless charging can also help the driver to control 530e to the correct parking position through WiFi connection between charging station and vehicle. A top view of the vehicle and its surroundings is displayed on the central control display, with colored lines to help guide the driver into the correct position. When the correct parking position for inductive charging is reached, a graphic icon is displayed. This controls the best position to deviate 2.75 inches in the longitudinal direction and 5.5 inches in the transverse direction. The groundpad can be installed outdoors and can be used outdoors regardless of the weather. All conductive components will not be affected by rain and snow, and groundpad management ensures that it will not be damaged in any way. During charging, the ambient electromagnetic radiation is limited to the vehicle chassis. The groundpad is permanently monitored and will close if any foreign material is detected.
