According to foreign media reports, Obrist powertrain, an Austrian engineering company, said it could double the endurance mileage of the model 3, but reduce the cost by half. (photo source: teslarati. Today, the company says, the infrastructure of electric vehicles is incomplete, the battery life is insufficient, and the price is still very expensive for ordinary consumers, so they have come up with a "hyperhybrid" powertrain solution: a platform that has a positive impact on the environment at no cost. In order to realize this platform, the 50 kwh battery pack made of 2170 battery cells in Tesla Model 3 is replaced by the older 17.3 kwh battery pack made of 18650 battery cells, which can reduce a lot of weight. At the same time, a dual cylinder gasoline engine and replaceable lithium-ion battery are installed on the front trunk of the vehicle, which finally realizes the Obrist solution with the highest energy efficiency, incomparable compactness and low price. The cost of 17.3 kwh battery pack system is US $2231.90, the cost of engine is US $1339.14, and the cost of the whole system is US $3571.04, which is about 55% lower than the cost of Tesla Model 3's 50 kwh battery pack module. Last October, Obrist signed the first authorization agreement to modify the model 3, hoping to reach a second agreement soon. Headquartered in Lake Constance, Austria, the company plans to launch its first hyperhybrid car to the public in 2023. At present, a prototype car adopting the technology is being tested with the model in Germany, and the founder of the company has not yet announced the specific name of the car. Although the concept of adding small engines to modify Tesla Model 3 by replacing smaller, lighter battery modules is interesting, the idea goes against people's original intention to buy Tesla. Many Tesla owners buy their cars to avoid fueling their cars and to deal with the global climate threat. However, the increase of gasoline engine is contrary to these two reasons.
