According to foreign media reports, Aston Martin, the British luxury sports car manufacturer, announced that it had cooperated with gentex Corporation to develop a camera based rear-view system for Aston Martin's future models, which will greatly improve the driver's ability to monitor the rear and side traffic of the vehicle. The system has been integrated into the DBS Superleggera model of Aston Martin for demonstration. The first prototype system will be displayed on the booth of Jingtai company at CES 2020. This unique rear-view system, called the camera monitoring system (CMS) in the automotive industry, uses three cameras to provide a comprehensive view of the side and rear of the vehicle. The side view camera is installed in each exterior rear-view mirror of the vehicle. The video content is combined with the camera image installed on the roof and displayed in multiple composite views, which are transmitted to the driver through the integrated rear-view mirror display in the cockpit. Jingtai's partnership with Aston Martin is part of an ongoing development plan to introduce CMS into Aston Martin's future vehicles. As for the current prototype vehicle, Aston Martin provides the overall modeling and design direction. Jingtai company integrates the camera, image processing software and image integrated display screen of the system. Moreover, Jingtai company also cooperates with lumatech, the supplier of exterior rear-view mirror, to produce such exterior rear-view mirror. "Aston Martin has chosen a hybrid CMS technology where the vehicle incorporates both a camera and a standard side view mirror," said Neil Boehm, CTO of Mattel. We believe that this hybrid solution is the most practical and comprehensive, designed to meet the needs of automakers, drivers, safety and global regulators. " A key feature of the hybrid CMS solution is that it improves security by ensuring that the system is fail safe. If the digital view is interrupted due to weather conditions or system faults, the driver can still use the traditional interior and exterior mirrors. The new CMS scheme can also allow drivers to use standard mirror view, camera view or a combination of the two views according to users' preferences and acceptances. The system can also use different flat glass and curved glass, combined with simple changes and adjustments to the video viewing mode, so that it can adapt to the vision requirements of different regulators around the world. The Mattel / Aston Martin CMS solution also includes a unique auto adjustment feature that automatically changes the video content in the integrated exterior mirror camera to adjust the position of the exterior mirror. When the driver adjusts the exterior rear-view mirror, the system will digitally optimize the camera's field of view to provide the best side vision. The core of the hybrid CMS solution is Jingtai's integrated rear-view mirror display, known as the full display mirror (FDM). FDM can be used as a standard automatic dimming rearview mirror or as an LCD display. When it is used as the display of CMS, the driver can select different viewing modes to view the contents of three cameras in various intuitive combination views. Recently, Jingtai company began to deliver FDM for 2020 Aston Martin DBS GT Zagato models. FDM is an essential part of supporting the evolution of the design language of Aston Martin Zagato without sacrificing its rear-view performance. Aston Martin Zagato is equipped with a large inclined full-size carbon fiber roof and borrows the mellow shape of the original DB4 GT Zagato model. FDM of DB4 GT Zagato model will receive live video from a single rear facing camera to obtain a clear and bright full view of the rear of the vehicle. (all pictures in the article are from Jingtai)
