According to foreign media reports, EnerDel, the US lithium manufacturer, has announced that it will become a lithium battery supplier of workhorse, a US technology company, and will provide 5200 EnerDel vigor + lithium battery packs for its new C1000 electric trucks. It is understood that EnerDel will adopt modular packaging design, support the battery requirements of workhorse's light C series vehicles, and be able to customize the battery pack size according to its work cycle. The 70 kwh EnerDel battery pack is available to support 125 miles (200 km) of Series C vehicles. Workhorse is committed to providing sustainable and cost-effective electric vehicle solutions for the transportation industry. The company recently obtained financing, and its order volume of Series C electric trucks is growing. Headquartered in Indianapolis, Indiana, EnerDel is a supplier of heavy-duty lithium-ion battery and electrical system solutions (ESS) in the United States. In 2009, EnerDel received $118.5 million from the U.S. Department of energy to expand its annual capacity of lithium batteries in Indiana from 30000 to 60000. EnerDel used $55 million of the funding until the end of 2011. At that time, EnerDel said that it had obtained orders for lithium batteries from automobile companies such as,,, Fisker and think global. However, enderdel's lithium battery business was hit by low penetration of global electric vehicles, insufficient market demand, and low-cost competition from Asian battery manufacturers such as Panasonic and Samsung SDI. As a result, its parent company Ener1 was also in financial crisis and its share price was in a long-term downturn. It was delisted from Nasdaq trading market in 2011 and finally applied for bankruptcy protection in Manhattan court in early 2017. EnerDel's acquisition of 5200 orders for lithium battery packs for electric vehicles this time means that its lithium battery business may improve, but there is uncertainty about whether orders will keep growing in the future. Like Europe, there is a lack of competitive lithium battery enterprises in the United States. Under the siege of Samsung SDI, LG Chemical, ski, Panasonic, GS Tangqian, and other battery giants from China, Japan and South Korea, European and American battery enterprises do not have competitive advantages in terms of production capacity, technology, market, customers, etc. Compared with Europe, the U.S. currently has little investment in the field of lithium battery, and there is no large-scale domestic power battery enterprise. However, there are a number of innovative technology companies in the United States, which are engaged in research on solid-state batteries, silicon carbon negative electrodes, lithium sulfur batteries, new positive materials and manufacturing processes, or will grasp certain competitive advantages in the field of next-generation battery technology.
